My Story

During the decades where I was struggling with my digestion, 20’s, 30’s in particular, I wished so much that someone could give me a roadmap to success. I was always dedicated to doing the healing work, but no one knew how to ‘heal or fix” me. I tried general practitioners, naturopaths, iridologists and even a metabolic specialist!

I went to the doctor and had my bloods done many times, but was always told there was nothing wrong with me. I was ‘healthy” but this contradicted how I was feeling. I always felt so low on energy. Almost like my best was the ‘normal persons’ sub-optimal.

I was labelled with IBS, because I didn't fit into the perfect selection criteria for the more common and recognisable diagnoses, such as Celiac, Chron's, or even gluten intolerant. This was frustrating because IBS is such a generic diagnosis, each individual can have different symptoms and therefore different triggers and different solutions. Trial and error was the only tool I was provided with at the time and I did this for over 15 years.. It helped somewhat, but after years of trialing so many different elimination diets, I still never felt like I had huge success with anything, until I was introduced to functional lab testing. Finally the guesswork was removed!

I was sick and tired of being told that there was nothing wrong with me!

The more I removed from my diet, the more sensitive I became. At one point it felt like I couldn't eat anything.

During my 20’s I ran a lot, including long distance races like marathons. I always felt like I had to put in more effort during my training programs than my peers and that I took longer to recover post races.

Also during my 20’s I had ‘hormonal’ skin flare ups. This was frustrating because I felt hard done by as an adult. I remember asking myself “Why was I getting pimples in my 20s, I was supposed to have finished this in my teens?”

I ate clean, I exercised and I did all the right things to look after my health, yet I never felt like I was firing on all cylinders, there was always a missing piece to my health that I just couldn't figure out.

I had my children in my 30s and that brought a whole new level of depletion that I had never experienced. Both of my kids were rubbish sleepers and so sleep and energy deprivation was part of my life for many years. This had a huge knock on effect on my digestion. It became poorer and poorer and the worse it got, the bigger the energy depletion got. I didn't have the energy to eat well, to exercise or to care for myself. My poor digestion affected my mood and staying healthy became challenging. I realised that I couldn’t use the ‘all or nothing’ approach that I had always adopted prior to kids. I had dependents that were counting on me and needed my attention all the time. So instead, I retaught myself how to make simple shifts in my life that allowed me to make positive changes over time and rebuild my energy.
